Workshop Overview

This immersive 5-day workshop in Lofoten is designed to elevate your drone filming skills. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced pilot, you'll refine your flying techniques, master camera settings, and develop a cinematic storytelling approach. By the end of the workshop, you’ll have an edited film showcasing your work, combining breathtaking landscapes with professional-level drone cinematography.

By the end of these five days, you’ll walk away with improved flying skills, a deeper understanding of drone filmmaking, and a fully edited short film that captures the magic of Lofoten.

You should have some experience with drone photography and videography and be familiar with the main functions of your own drone.

There will be no strenuous hikes or trips in steep terrain.

Workshop Schedule

Day 1: Fundamentals & Flight Control

Focus: Understanding your drone & precision flying

  • Introduction & workshop goals

  • Drone setup, firmware checks & safety basics

  • Manual flight exercises: smooth movements, precision control, and speed adjustments

  • Understanding different flight modes & when to use them

  • Practical session: Flying in controlled environments

  • Evening Session: Review of the day's footage, feedback & introduction to editing workflo

Day 2: Camera Settings & Exposure Control

Focus: Mastering manual camera settings for cinematic footage

  • Understanding shutter speed, ISO, aperture & ND filters

  • White balance & color profiles (Log vs. standard profiles)

  • FPS and resolution: When to use 24fps, 30fps, 60fps & slow motion

  • Composition principles: Framing shots for storytelling

  • Practical session: Shooting different scenes with optimal settings

  • Evening Session: Reviewing footage, color grading basics & Q&A

Day 3: Cinematic Movements & Dynamic Shots

Focus: Creating engaging drone shots with smooth motion

  • Understanding movement: Parallax, orbiting, reveal shots, and tracking

  • Using foreground & depth to create dynamic compositions

  • Speed control & acceleration for dramatic effect

  • Practical session: Filming real-world scenarios with a storytelling approach

  • Evening Session: Review & feedback, introduction to music selection & pacing in editing

Day 4: Location Scouting & Storytelling

Focus: Planning your shots & crafting a narrative

  • Understanding lighting conditions & the best times to shoot

  • Scouting locations & creating a shot list

  • Flying in complex environments (mountains, coastlines, urban settings)

  • Mini Project: Capture a sequence that tells a short story

  • Evening Session: Editing workshop – assembling sequences & structuring your film

Day 5: Editing & Finalizing Your Film

Focus: Post-production

Advanced editing techniques: Cuts, transitions, and pacing

  • Color grading for a cinematic look

  • Sound design & music selection

  • Export settings for different platforms

Day 6: Final Screening

  • Showcase your edited film & feedback session

Practical Information – Lofoten Winter Adventure 2026

Course Duration

The course runs from Monday at 7 PM to Sunday at 11.30 AM

Location

Vestresand on Vestvågøy in Lofoten.

The meeting room is at Haverringen 132, 8360 BØSTAD.

Accommodation and Meals

  • We will be staying at houses in Vestresand. The houses have 3-4 bedrooms (single rooms, but double rooms can be arranged), shared bathroom, and kitchen.

    Accommodation costs are not included in the course fee and are to be paid directly to Lofoten Vacation.

    If you choose alternative accommodation from the offer by Lofoten Vacation during the workshop, you must ensure your own transport to and from Leknes Airport and other transport during the workshop.

    Cost for Accommodation and Meals (breakfast, dinner and lunch packs)

    • EUR 950 for the entire workshop. This covers:

      - Single room accommodation with shared bathroom and kitchen.

      - Meals included: Breakfast Tuesday to Sunday, Dinner Monday to Saturday, Warm lunch on Sunday, Packed lunches Thursday to Saturday, Coffee and tea in the meeting room.

Travel and Transport

  • You can fly to Evenes or Leknes. Please contact us before booking your travel to ensure you have the most practical and advantageous options. Air tickets are covered by the participants themselves. Transport from Leknes Airport to the workshop venue at Vestresand will be organised by the course organiser.

  • Participants must have their travel insurance.

  • Travel to and from Leknes is to be booked and covered by the individual participants. If you plan to arrive at the workshop later than the start time or leave the workshop before the end time, this must be arranged with the course organiser in advance. In such cases, you will need to arrange your own transport between the airport and the venue both ways.

  • Transport during the workshop is included.

Equipment to bring

  • Drone

  • Spare batteries for your drone

  • Digital camera (DSLR/mirrorless/compact camera) with lens(es) if you want.

  • Waterproof and warm footwear

  • Clothing suitable for the weather and season (waterproof and windproof)

  • Crampons suitable for terrain use. Recommended: Snowline Chainsen Pro or similar.

  • Water bottle

  • Computer with video editing software

Participant Fees

  • EUR 1400.- (registration before 3th August 2025)

  • EUR 1500.- (registration from 3th August 2025)

The participant fee covers instruction. The fee is payable upon invoice sent via email.

Terms and Conditions

  • Registration is binding after 13th August 2025. Failure to attend will be regarded as a cancellation.

  • A deposit of EUR 300.- is required. The deposit will be invoiced after registration and is non-refundable in the event of cancellation.

About the Instructors

Bjørn Joachimsen

Landscape & Documentary photographer specialist

Bjørn works across many photographic genres, including portrait, landscape, architecture, and industrial photography. He was born and raised on the coast of Northern Norway and captures natural experiences with his camera across both the southern and northern regions of the country. Bjørn has worked professionally in photography for 20 years and has extensive experience in a variety of commissioned photography genres. He is one of the most active photography instructors in Norway, conducting courses throughout the country. In addition to teaching photography, Bjørn also instructs in Lightroom and Photoshop. Over the years, he has collaborated on workshops with numerous photographers from both Norway and abroad, including Bjørn Opsahl, Bård Løken, David Beckstead (USA), Jens Haugen, Trine Bjervig, Lars Andreas Dybvik, Dag Nystuen, and Kate Monica Myrmellom. In the spring of 2014, Bjørn was responsible for the artistic decoration of the Clarion Hotel The Edge in Tromsø – a prestigious project in decoration and art photography.
